I know, I know, I'm supposed to be working, but wanted to get off a quick post so I'm taking some time out.

I joined a book club online recently called Recorded Books. They're actually audio books that I pay a flat rate for each month, then I choose the books I'm interested in, they send them to me, then when I'm finished I just drop them in the mail. I don't pay postage either way. It's especially great for when I travel-it helps keep me awake and the time passes more quickly.

I just thought I'd mention a couple books I've listened to recently and would highly recommend. Maybe your library would have them if you're interested. The one I just finished is called "Uprising". I don't like to know a lot about the books I read, before I read them, so I don't know how much to tell. Here's the gist. It's about the lives of three very different girls who became friends back in the early 1900's. Two of them worked in a shirtwaist factory and it talks about the deplorable working conditions and safety issues. My description may not sound very interesting, but it really is a riveting, gripping, emotional story. The second book I really enjoyed is called "Miss Spitfire". It is a story about Annie Sullivan, Helen Keller's teacher. These are both great reading.

The reason I haven't posted for awhile, is THIS! I took this picture before I finished filling it completely. I started last Monday working on clearing out a lot of STUFF! Then had to carry it downstairs and load it in the trailer. I was hoping to finish last Saturday, but it didn't happen. One of these days I'm hoping to have an auction.

This coming weekend is the Finley family reunion here and this helped me get on the ball and get er done! I took it over to Bowling Green this afternoon and unloaded it, with the help of the Knipmeyers. Judy drove past me just as I got to town, and called and offered to help, and they were a big help! THANKS to you both! Now to get the house cleaned!

I took some time out to take a couple pictures of my flowers.

Last years Independence flood

There's been so many disasters lately-in China, Mynamar, the flooding in Iowa and around here. It's not a pleasant thing and my heart goes out to those affected. The last of June last year, when we (Valerie and I), were in Independence, it flooded there also. I thought I'd put up some of the pictures I took then.

This is on Park St., it got much higher later.

Looking East, at the edge of town. The only way to leave for awhile, was to take 75S, towards Caney.

10th St. and Poplar

10th St. and Poplar. Most of these were taken earlier on, the water came up quite a bit later.

On the other side of 10th St., around where Derailed Commodities used to be, looking North.

I think this was around Birch and 8th or 9th.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

This picture was taken last July at the Rogers family reunion. Dad wasn't able to do hardly anything because of his heart, and spent most of the day in this recliner. I'm so thankful I still have my dad and for the touch the Lord's given him. He has even been able to go back to work part-time! Thanks Dad, for being the great guy you are, and doing your best to see that your family served the Lord. I have so many great memories! I love you!

A Father Means...
A Father means so many things...
An understanding heart,
A source of strength and support right from the very start.

A constant readiness to help
In a kind and thoughtful way.
With encouragement and forgiveness,

No matter what comes your way.
A special generosity and always affection, too.
A father means so many things
when he's a man like you....

I walked up to Val and Bill's this evening, and Valerie and Lance were playing with bubbles, so I got a few pictures.

From the past

This was my dad's way back--before we went to Grenada. It is a 46 International and it's had quite a history. It was parked in our garage in Oswego while we were in Grenada and then when we were in Arizona my dad traded it to a fellow in Kansas City. He parked it in his garage for years and it deteriorated quite a bit, it used to be a shiny red and was running before being parked. Then a few years ago, he just gave it back to my dad, and he gave it to Beverly, she wanted to restore it. But it ended up being parked in the Cunninghams field for a few years, till she traded it to me for a computer table! So it's been parked in the lot here for a few years, until the other day (3-4 months ago I think) the UPS guy asked about it and made an offer for it, so I sold it to him. I took some pictures beforehand though, doesn't it look vintage?

A Touch of the Tropics

Recently a local radio station had an auction day and I bought a certificate to a local nursery valued at a $100.00 for $74.00 I think it was. So Saturday, I went and picked out a few plants to add to my gardens. I couldn't resist this one, they have a lot of these in Grenada. I just love it, and it was a good deal to, because if you'll notice, there's two different plants in it. One's kind of a salmon color and the other is magenta. I've got to get them repotted sometime-gotta watch out for those thorns though, they're mean. But I think it'll be worth it. Of course, they'll have to be brought in during the winter and I'll have to try to keep them from getting too cold, which if they're in this house might be hard to do.
